An article about SmartSantander and the involvement of CTI in the project was featured in the "Peloponnisos" newspaper of March 16th, 2014. CTI researchers E. Theodoridis and G. Mylonas were interviewed about the main goals and achievements of the project, and also about the ways that such experience could be applied to the city of Patras, a city sharing many similarities with Santander in terms of size and location. "Peloponnisos" is one of the oldest Greek newspapers and is read daily by over 35.000 readers.

The final review meeting for the SmartSantander project was held at the premises of the University of Cantabria, Santander, on December 4th-5th. After 3 years of hard work, all the partners presented their work, accompanied by a set of demonstrations showcasing the services offered by the project. These were combined with the demonstrations of the sets of experiments chosen during the 2nd open call for experiments of the project.
SPITFIRE wins best demo award at Future Internet Assembly The Internet of Things (IoT) is predicted to be one of the main drivers of innovation and economic growth in the coming years. The EU project SPITFIRE provides some of the required core enabling technologies for the IoT, combining the latest networking and service-based access standards with self-configuration and Web-compatible data management. Demoing this forward-looking research vision, earned the SPITFIRE team the best demo award at the Future Internet Assembly (FIA), the EU’s flagship showcase event in Dublin, May 8-10, 2013. FIA showcases world-leading projects in all areas of EU research related to the Internet. In this highly competitive setting, SPITFIRE managed to convince with its research results and their translation into a stunning demo.

RU1/University of Patras team in the semifinals of IPSO Challenge 2013

The IPSO (Internet Protocol for Smart Objects) Alliance announced today that a panel of industry experts has selected ten semi-finalists for IPSO CHALLENGE 2013. Among the semi-finalists is the team led by Prof. Sotiris Nikoletseas of Research Unit 1.
The ten semi-finalists and the countries they hail from are: Cisco Systems, Japan; Colorado Micro Devices, USA; FAST Laboratory (Tampere University of Technology), Finland; Oval Integration, USA; Purdue University, USA; Redwire Consulting, USA; University of Patras, Greece; University of Tokyo, Japan; viBrain Solutions and University of Murcia, Spain; and Vienna University of Technology, Austria.
A small video regarding the work of RU1 and the Fun in Numbers platform, was aired on Greek national TV channel ET1, together with work from other distinguished Greek research teams.

Fun in Numbers - Excellence in Greek Academic Research Award

Fun in Numbers, a platform for pervasive games and interactive installations developed by RU1, was chosen as one of the success stories in academic research by the Greek Ministry of Education. A workshop took place at the building of the Ministry on Monday, December 17, 2012, where the chosen teams were awarded and presented their results to a wide audience. More details regarding the workshop can be found on the following link.
RU1 participated in the Athens Plaython Street Games Festival (http://athensplaython.org/en), presenting the Tug of War game. Although it was just the second year the event was organised, it was a big success. Over 1500 people visited the event venue and had lots of fun playing games and learning about embedded hardware.
SPITFIRE demo receives award at the Internet of Things Challenge Competition

"True Self-Configuration for the Internet of Things" is the title of the demo that SPITFIRE partners presented at the Internet of Things 2012 conference in Wuxi, China. It was part of the first "IoT Challenge" competition, which called for highly innovative research and practical solutions to real-world problems. The SPITFIRE team won the second place in the competition.

Mylonas won the best paper award at the 5th Panhellenic Scientific Conference for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students in Computer Engineering, Informatics, related Technologies and Applications (EUREKA! 2011). FET 2011 - Poster First Prize
May 4 - 6, 2011, Budapest, Hungary
During the duration of the project FRONTS at FET 2011, our work has received the Poster First Price for "Building simple formations in large societies of tiny mobile artifacts".
ICT 2008 will host a bumper crop of exhibits; almost 200 individual stands featuring seven research villages, SME, international and Commission stands.
