Pervasive Adaptive (PERAD 2007)
Joint FET – EATCS Workshop

The workshop is now finished. The schedule page has been updated with the material used.

Aim: The workshop aims in clearly identifying the research objectives on which the Academic community should concentrate, with respect to the FET Proactive Call on Pervasive Adaptation.

It also aims in mobilizing the foundational research community on this important topic.

Scope: There exists a strong demand for massive-scale information and communication systems that are pervasive and also capable to autonomously adapt to highly dynamic and open situations with respect to technologies and users. Successful adaptation strategies may imply changes in software, hardware, protocols and / or architectures at different levels of granularity and abstraction.

Two important sub-areas are already recognized in the related call, namely:

  • Systems that are able to evolve, self-organize and self-manage in a robust way in order to respond to dynamically changing environments.
  • Networked Societies of artifacts that can adapt to each other and to changing needs, in such environments.

Facing the challenge of pervasive adaptation may require radical advances in various scientific areas, including Algorithms, Formal methods, Trust and Security, as well as modern Distributed Computing. The workshop PERAD 07 includes a set of invited and contributed talks on this challenge.

For a more detailed description of Pervasive Adaptation you can download the background document.

Date and Place: PERAD 2007 will take place in the Auditorium of the Madou Tower, Place Madou 1, Brussels (near Madou metro station) on January 26, 2007 from 09:00 to 17:00 hours.
